Congratulations to Special Education teacher Julie Plascencia, 2017-2018 Teacher of the Year for Elizabeth Smith Elementary School.
Mrs. Plascencia (Mrs. P) has been a teacher for 14 years, 12 here in Mansfield ISD. She grew up in Arlington, Texas, graduated from the University of Texas in Arlington in 2003 and taught 2nd grade in Arlington ISD. After migrating south, she worked as a paraprofessional for two years, then as a teacher in the special education program here in MISD.
Here's what our principal, Lea Boiles, has to say about Mrs. P:
Julie Plascencia is an educator who exemplifies the philosophy of “All Children Can Learn” in everything she does each and every day. She sees unlimited potential in each of her students. The work she does to lay a strong academic, social and communication foundation for her students sets them up for strong success as they embark on their individual educational journey. Julie’s positive impact reaches beyond the walls of her classroom and the campus. Through her efforts and innovative thinking the parents and families of her students are able to realize the potential in their children that sometimes they fear they will never see. The family picnic, that has now become an annual event, is building a network of support for our families and students outside of school which enables them to positively impact one another.
Mrs. P and her husband have three children of which whom they are very proud. In her spare time, she enjoys going to church, attending her children's sporting events, and watching movies.
Elizabeth Smith Elementary is indeed fortunate to have Julie Plascencia on our team.
